Most problems with a camera-controlled game are about where the phone is standing. Start here.
Setting up
- Prop the phone up against something at about waist height or higher. Flat on the floor or on a table edge is the single most common cause of poor detection.
- Stand two to three metres back, so your whole body is in frame. The calibration screen shows a live outline — when the frame turns green it can see you properly.
- Give yourself light. A room lit from in front of you is much easier than one lit from behind — standing with a bright window at your back is the hardest case for any camera.
- Landscape is the default for most games and gives the widest view of you. You can switch it off in Settings.
The game isn't reading my movement
- Check the camera permission: iOS Settings → Movus → Camera.
- Step back. If your feet are cut off, games that use legs will struggle.
- Wear something that contrasts with the wall behind you.
- Turn the camera thumbnail on in Settings to see exactly what the app can see.
It feels slow or stutters
- Turn off Low Power Mode. It caps the processor and graphics across the whole phone, and it is the most common cause by a distance.
- The very first run after installing or updating is always the slowest — the phone is compiling graphics as it goes. It settles after that.
- Close other apps using the camera.
Apple Health
Movus can write your workouts to Health and read your height, weight, age and sex to make the calorie estimate accurate. It all stays on your device. Turn it on or off in iOS Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Movus. The app works fine without it.
Deleting your data
Everything — settings, scores, your character and your history — lives on your phone. Deleting the app removes all of it. To stop anonymous usage statistics without deleting anything, turn the switch off in the app's Settings.
